The Brumskine Mania 27 May 04 I am commenting on Mr. Renford Engelbert Walsh's responsese (John Morlu's Inaccurate Assessment of the Brumskine Mania) to Mr. John Morlu’s commentary (Is Charles Brumskine Liberia's Howard Dean? ) on the Charles Brumskine presidential campaign, with focus on Brumskine’s personally, by his (Walsh’s) submission of “John Morlu’s Inaccurate Assessment of the Brumskine Mania”. Mr. Walsh’s use of the phrase “the Brumskine mania” in the caption of his rebuttal is in fact a testament to the accuracy of Mr. Morlu’s statement about the Honorable Counselor. “Mania” is exactly the description Mr. Morlu metaphorically applies to the state of the Brumskine presidential campaign. So, it appears that Mr. Walsh and Mr. Morlu are speaking the same language in this regard. Mr. Walsh, I am sure, knows that “mania” means, among other things, a “fashion”, a “fad” or an “obsession”. Well, anyone with common sense knows that a “fad”, “fashion” or “obsession” usually is short-lived, because they normally do not fall within the realm of reality. Since Mr. Walsh says as much the same about the Brumskine campaign as Mr. Morlu, insofar as it being a “fad”, we can safely say that they are both in agreement. Mr. Morlu is, therefore, right in his “assessment” of the Brumskine campaign. Let us analyze one other allegation by Mr. Morlu in his writing, and I paraphrase: Mr. Brumskine was a close collaborator of Charles Taylor during most of the period that he viciously attacked and foraged Liberia. Under this scenario, which is public knowledge in the Liberian community, how could Charles Brumskine be separated from Charles Taylor? It is a near-impossible task, no matter how one tries. The two will forever be linked to have connived with Charles Taylor in his diabolical escapade in West Africa, particularly in Liberia, was Charles Brumskine’s choice? He, therefore, must bear the consequences. All peace-loving and democratically-minded Liberians, like Mr. Morlu, must forcefully reject the attempt of Mr. Brumskine to accede to the presidency of Liberia. When did Mr. Brumskine get the Holy Ghost (not to sound sacrilegious) that he can now be expected to be of any good to the Liberian people? I wholeheartedly agree with Mr. Morlu. The man is a wolf in sheepskin. One only has to reflect upon his recent aggressive and sneaky attempt to buy his way to the standard-bearer position of the LUP Party. I do not see the need to further attempt to dissect the Morlu statement word-for-word or sentence-by-sentence to prove its accuracy. The facts are a matter of public knowledge in the Liberian community, and probably beyond. If Mr. Walsh chooses to remain in self-denial with respect to the facts of Mr. Brumskine’s character, as set forth in Mr. Morlu’s commentary, that is his choice. What is important is that stalwart citizens like Mr. Morlu should be encouraged to continue to put to the forefront the beastly nature of these tyrants who are now clambering to grab the highest office of our Dear Liberia by any means possible. The Liberian people must be reminded at all times of the heinous crimes that Taylor and his lieutenants like Charles Brumskine committed against them. As long as there is a God of Mercy — and THERE IS indeed — no “Taylorite” like Charles Brumskine or any of the armed bandits of the LURD or MODEL groups will succeed in his or her quest for the Liberian presidency. Lastly, not only was I very impressed by the factual information presented by Mr. Morlu in his commentary, the cohesiveness and cadence of his thoughts and ideas made his writing a pleasure to read. It is not often — if I may be blunt — that we read such a well-written piece by a fellow Liberian. I, therefore, extend to Mr. Morlu my sincere appreciation for his informative narration and hope that he will continue to feed us with more exposé. Garnett Y.K. Gbamokollie
